The Axarquia is an area on the eastern side of Malaga and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the south and the great mountains to the north. The mountains provide shelter from north winds and cold weather that prevails in many other areas of Spain and thus creates "the best climate in Europe".
The Axarquia aprox.1021km2 measured. The name comes from the Axarquia an Arabic word which means "East" and extends from the eastern part of Malaga in the east side of Nerja to the Alfarnate.

Most of the white villages in the Axarquia are of Arab origin with narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. The beautiful surrounding countryside is full of olive groves and fruit trees reminiscent of years past. The mules are still used for agriculture and are a regular sight shepherds leading their goats through the hills and valleys of the countryside .
The Axarquia has a wide range of golf courses and sports activities, and is only 1 hour and 30 minute drive from Sierra Nevada, an excellent ski resort.
Spanish fiestas and festivals are enjoyed throughout the year, plus the large coastal cities have excellent restaurants and entertainment into the early morning hours.
